We have the wheels for you, whether you ride Triathlon or Time Trial

Are there special wheels for those of you riding Triathlon and Time Trial?

When you ride Triathlon or Time Trial, you can benefit from considering high-profile wheels and disc wheels - which we also call Aero Disc wheels. Why should you consider it, you might ask? Here, we give you inspiration as to why you can benefit from riding with disc wheels, and who it is relevant for.

Advantages of high-profile wheels and disc wheels

The advantages of high-profile wheels - which in Triathlon and Time Trial contexts will often be +60mm and most often +80mm profile - are many. Here we list some of the benefits:

  • Aerodynamics - With a high-profile wheel, you achieve the highest possible aerodynamics, which is crucial when you are riding "contre la montre" - "the race against the clock"
  • Stiffness - With a high-profile wheel, you get a stiff wheel where minimal power is lost
  • Maintaining speed - It is easier to maintain speed with a high-profile wheel, which means you have to pedal less to maintain the same speed, for example, compared to lower profiles
  • Disc wheels (Aero disc wheels) have the advantage that they are extremely aerodynamic, and maintaining speed is significantly easier than with any other wheels
  • Aesthetics - A carbon disc wheel provides the ultimate cool factor for your TT or Tri bike
  • Sound - A disc wheel makes an absolutely fantastic sound when you are riding - the sound itself is enough for many to take an extra trip

Are there disadvantages to high-profile wheels and disc wheels?

There are no real disadvantages to riding with high profiles - however, there are a few parameters you should be aware of:

  • Wind sensitivity - The higher the profile, the more wind-sensitive you are. You will primarily notice this in crosswinds, where gusts from the side can cause some "jolts" and thus more lateral movement of the bike
  • Weight - The higher the profile, the more material in the wheels = Higher weight. If you are going to ride in the mountains, it is not an advantage to use exclusively aerodynamic wheels. You achieve the biggest advantages the faster you ride, i.e., on flatter routes rather than mountainous ones. However, we also offer a super lightweight carbon disc wheel at only 970 grams - which is extremely light for a disc wheel
